The Dining Table

The design requirements necessitated that the table be round and able to expand to accommodate guests, with specific measurements. The table was preferred to have an X-Style base.

The design of the table was simple but bold. In order to move the design from the farmhouse design style into a contemporary style, careful design choices were made to incorporate curves into the X-Style base. Inlaid strips of highly figured maple around the apron added a small elegant detail.

  • The design.

    The curvature of the X-Base was an important design element in order to blend different styles.

  • The Material

    Thick straight grain walnut was needed to create leading lines in all of the pieces of the X-Base, directing the attention to the center joint.

  • The Method.

    In order to prevent the lightening of the walnut over time, we used a dye stain that brought out the contrast in the wood.

  • The Result.

    The inlaid curly maple was the perfect accent to bring elegance to the table while preserving the bold simplicity of the design.
