The Study Desk
The design requirement was for specific measurements with a simple and relaxed feel.
We chose to design the desk with a mid-century modern feel but added an elegant touch of a multi-species inlay.

We chose to design the desk with a mid-century modern feel but added an elegant touch of a multi-species inlay.
The hallmark features of mid-century modern is complex angles with a consistent thickness between parts. The design came about as a solution for mass producing furniture that was appealing and pragmatic. The challenge of the design is elegance.
We chose white oak for it’s strength even in small thickness applications. The unassuming cream color has led it to become the quintessential wood choice for mid-century modern furniture.
The design choice required that the center of gravity be placed forward in order to spread the weight between the front and rear contact points with the ground. The top extends slightly beyond the rear legs in order to prevent a gap between the top of the desk and the wall.
A small but elegant inlay of walnut, purpleheart, and paduk elevated a practical design of mass production into a personalized work of art.
